About Us

Namaste Psychology is a mental health organisation based in Pune. Today we're a closely knit team of psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, and interns, but five years ago, we were just an idea.

How it started

Psychologist Ruchi Rana, our founder, envisioned a community of mental health practitioners working together to make care more accessible and to chip away at the stigma around it. She and Psychiatrist Dr. Savita Gaikwad, both with well-established careers already behind them, decided it was time to build something the mental health community needed.

The idea took root during the COVID-19 pandemic, in the smallest way possible: an Instagram page, run by a team of three, talking about all things mental health. As the posts found an audience, a community formed around them. People were paying attention, and that opened the door to doing more.

From a page to a practice

We began offering therapy and psychiatric sessions, workshops, and webinars under the Namaste Psychology name. The experience our founders already had gave us credibility early on, and people started choosing us for their mental health needs. As our services grew, so did our team: we brought in young professionals and student interns to help carry the work forward.

In 2022, we launched our first Mental Health Drive, an initiative to bring mental health conversations beyond our existing clients and out into the wider community. A few cafes across Pune backed the idea right away, and over three days at three different locations, we talked to people, answered their questions, and ran activities built around one simple belief: sometimes a conversation is all it takes to shift a mindset. The response was strong enough that the Drive is now an annual tradition.

Around the same time, we started designing our own mental health merchandise in-house: totes, badges, and quotes to start, now grown into a line of over ten products meant to support people's everyday mental health. Every purchase helps fund sliding-scale therapy for people who need it but couldn't otherwise afford it.

Where we are now

Our work has expanded into structured training and workshops, including Infertility Counselling, Gender Affirmative Practice, and MSE and Case History Taking. We run support groups both online and offline: Queerkey for the LGBTQ+ community, and a group for people with Borderline Personality Disorder. We've also moved into corporate mental health training, a space we're continuing to grow in.

Our team has been part of conversations beyond the therapy room too, including a collaboration with QTP Entertainment's play Every Brilliant Thing, where one of our professionals joined the audience after the show for an open discussion on mental health and wellness.

Who we are today

What began as an Instagram page is now a full mental health organisation. Five years in, the vision hasn't changed, only grown: at Namaste Psychology, we're moving towards better mental health, every day.
